I long for you to see me as I now see this river

Rounding a bend and suddenly she’s there
a moment of light meeting water and air
so that all names and knowing drop out like a stone
in a seminal seeing uncharted unknown

Lying on her back in her limestone bed
a playground of swifts flying overhead
sentient being gazing up at the skies
the wide span of evening at rest between her thighs

Inviolate tenderness of living things
tiny beaks dipping touching her with their wings
long willow fingers strumming her lustrous skin
and I a mere stranger so warmly welcomed in

I long for you to see me as this river see me now

Rounding her bend and suddenly I’m there
a moment of light meeting water and air
so that all names and knowing drop out like a stone
in a seminal seeing uncharted unknown

Human heron standing stock still on her shore
soul river coursing its way through my core
arterial current of joy in recognition
restoring lost pathways so painfully writhen

Heart filled with gentleness courage and longing
with soul creatures looking for a place of belonging
In her seeing of me my banks overflow
I have waited so long to be known and to know
